This is a very attractive and unusual Japanese Satsuma ware vase with colourful Moriage enamel highlights and which also has five distinctive relief-moulded Geisha figures surrounding the surface of the vase. These figures are in three-dimensional high relief against a hand painted landscape background and all are striking a different pose in dark red, green and blue colourways. The vase is in the typical Satsuma buscuit body and is marked'made in Japan' to the base.
It dates from c 1910-20 equating to the Meiji or Taisho eras and is in very good condition with no chips, cracks or restoration with only very minor wear (gilding loss to the rim) commensurate with its age. It measures and impressive 25 cm high by 15 cm wide, has a goid weighty feel (hence p&p cost) and would make a great addition to any collection of Japanese, oriental or Asian antiques and ceramics.
