The base is signed "Seizan".

NOTE: The signature is by the Master Potter and pioneer of the fine calligraphy technique, Oda Seizan and NOT to be confused with Seizan Gama (Seizan Kiln). In 1895 Oda Seizan and in Terai, Ohara started calligraphy under the guidance of Nomura Zenkichi.

Oda Seizan has improved this technique established few years and became specialized in this field. In 1912 Oda Seizan was mastering the calligraphy and will eventually become the most famous calligraphist and 1953 a Living National Treasure. Only few painters have since succeeded to reach a similar level.

They have been very well looked after and never been used for any purpose other than ornaments/collectors items. The only signs of wear/aging are crazing on the base of the feet (see images).
